Danger Mouse & Black Thought “Up” ft. Rag’n’Bone Man (Video)

After their acclaimed 2022 album Cheat Codes, Danger Mouse & Black Thought return with a new single, “Up”. This track features UK soul singer Rag’n’Bone Man and is now streaming on all major platforms. In addition, it comes with an official video directed by Joshua Ellingson.

The song is built on a moody, piano-led groove. It highlights Danger Mouse’s signature production. Meanwhile, Black Thought delivers razor-sharp verses. At the same time, Rag’n’Bone Man adds soulful vocals and live drums. This combination gives the track both energy and a classic feel.

Black Thought Drops Lines You Can’t Ignore

In “Up”, Black Thought reflects on legacy, struggle, and perseverance. For example:

I am the bearer of a burden that is heavy as f**k.
I’m pure legacy. Incredibly, I’ll never be touched,
so ain’t nowhere to go from here but UP.

Furthermore, the contrast between his intense delivery and Rag’n’Bone Man’s emotive hook creates a compelling tension. As a result, the song resonates deeply with listeners.

Visuals Match the Music’s Soul

Joshua Ellingson’s video mirrors the track’s hypnotic vibe. Also, the cinematic visuals and close-up shots of the trio’s performances bring the energy to life. The video is just as engaging as the music itself.

A Collaboration That Raises the Bar

Danger Mouse & Black Thought have a history of ground breaking collaborations. They previously worked with artists like A$AP Rocky, Run The Jewels, MF DOOM, and Michael Kiwanuka. Now, adding Rag’n’Bone Man takes the sound to a fresh level. Moreover, “Up” stays true to their roots while evolving their style.

Although the next full-length album is still under wraps, “Up” provides a tantalising glimpse of what’s to come. In addition, the hypnotic production, sharp lyrics, and soulful vocals prove that Danger Mouse & Black Thought remain at the forefront of innovative music collaborations.
