Behind J Scienide “Prevail”

Written while spending time in London, J Scienide explains that Prevail is an ode to inner-city life. Reflecting on the challenges of the crack era and the rapid decline of urban communities, he highlights both the hardships and the ambition of young people determined to succeed.

I wrote this while out in London (Big up to Peckham). This song is an ode to inner city life. Coming up during the crack era and the rapid deterioration of the urban community. It also shows the good times and the ambition of young people who are determined and focused. The memories of growing up street-smart and goal-driven. The beat made me think of joy and pain but the sunshine is actually peeking through to show there’s hope.

Rediscovering old photographs inspired him to reflect on his past and focus on his future.
