Directed by Tim Mielants, the video combines clips from Steve with scenes featuring Simz. One of the standout moments comes in an auditorium, where the floor appears to become the ceiling.

The visual reflects the disorienting pressures faced by the characters in the film. At the same time, it reinforces the themes running through the track, including resilience, struggle and human connection.

Don’t Leave Too Soon A Track for Reflection

Written by Little Simz, Miles Clinton James and Matthew Nelson, “Don’t Leave Too Soon” combines atmospheric drum & bass with ethereal production.

Simz moves between quiet reflection and urgent spoken-word delivery. As a result, the track turns personal introspection into a wider meditation on mortality, mental health and human connection.

The Netflix Film Steve

Steve arrives on Netflix on 3 October 2025, following a limited theatrical release from 19 September. The film is based on Max Porter’s novel Shy.

The story follows a head teacher working at a struggling reform school in the mid-1990s. The cast includes Cillian Murphy, Tracey Ullman, Jay Lycurgo and Emily Watson.

Little Simz’s “Don’t Leave Too Soon” captures the emotional tension at the heart of the film. The track reflects the struggles faced by both students and teachers, while also touching on wider issues around mental health and social pressures.
